EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -World War II veteran Hershel Williams received a full heroes welcome today. He flew into Owensboro Saturday, before speaking at the Kentucky Department of the American Gold Star Mothers luncheon.
Members from the Owensboro American legion and Marine bikers from Southern Illinois escorted Williams through Owensboro on their motorcycles, showing their gratitude for his sacrifice.
Williams told us his goal is to bring honor to all Gold star families, and hopefully inspire others to place a memorial in Owensboro to remember those who sacrificed their lives for our country.
“We would like to see every state in the country put one on their capitol grounds that would honor all the gold star families in their state. Had those individuals not entered the military and sacrificed their life we possibly would not have the country we have” said Williams.
There are currently more than forty gold family memorials all over the US.
