DUNBAR, W.Va. - The Department of West Virginia Marine Corps League donated a United States Marine Corps monument to the Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery, 130 Academy Drive, Dunbar, West Virginia, in October.

The monument was a collaborative effort from all 13 Marine Corps League Detachments and more than 800 volunteer members across the state who were proud to honor and memorialize those Marine Corps veterans who served our country, according to a news release.

The donation was also the 94th birthday of WWII Medal of Honor recipient Hershel "Woody" Williams, past Department of West Virginia commandant of the Marine Corps League who was the guest speaker for the dedication.

A celebration of his birthday followed the dedication ceremony.

The monument was dedicated to honor the memory, service and sacrifice of all Marines laid to rest at the cemetery and to provide a lasting tribute for Marine families to cherish as they visit their loved ones, according to the release.
