The All Veterans Association of Tulsa and the Tulsa Marine Corps League have begun raising funds to place a new monument in the city’s Veterans Park.
The proposed Gold Star Family Monument, recently approved by the city of Tulsa’s parks department, would be a tribute to Gold Star mothers, fathers and relatives.
The Gold Star is a designation for families who have lost sons or daughters in service to the country’s armed forces.
The fundraising goal for the monument is $100,000, officials said.
Donations, through the nonprofit All Veterans Association, are tax-deductible.
The monument would be placed on the west side of the park, 18th Street and Boulder Avenue, near other memorial monuments.
The project is in conjunction with a national effort through the Hershel “Woody” Williams Medal of Honor Foundation to place such monuments in every state, organizers said.
