Gold Star families will be honored Sunday with a monument unveiled at 1 p.m. at Antelope Park, 1650 Memorial Drive.
The monument is also a gift to Nebraska for its sesquicentennial.
“No one has sacrificed more for Nebraska in the past 150 years than our fallen military,” said Barbara Bartle, president of the Lincoln Community Foundation.
The sole surviving World War II Marine to wear the Medal of Honor, Hershel "Woody" Williams, will speak.
Williams made the monument possible — his foundation's mission is to have a Gold Star families memorial monument in each state. The Nebraska monument will be the 23rd.
The event is open to the public.
