Cliff Yow, an honorary board member of the Hershel Woody Williams Medal of Honor Foundation, recently told member of the Cooke County Rebecca Crockett Chapter of the Daughter’s of the American Revolution that the Gold Star Families Memorial Monument is nearly 80 percent funded.
The group hosted a ceremonial ground breaking earlier this month for the project that is estimated to cost between $50,000 to $60,000. The monument, which represents someone who was killed serving in the military while paying tribute to the Gold Star Families, is expected to be completed by October.
Medal of Honor recipient Hershel “Woody” Williams has made it his mission through the Hershel Woody Williams Medal of Honor Foundation to have at least one monument in all 50 states.
The first Gold Star Families Memorial Monument was erected in West Virginia, and there are now 32 monuments completed across the country.
