The Hershel Woody Williams Congressional Medal of Honor Education Foundation, Inc. was established in 2010 and is a charitable 501(c)(3), not-for-profit organization that pursues specific endeavors and goals through the vision of Medal of Honor Recipient Hershel "Woody" Williams. The Foundation encourages, with the assistance of the American public and community leaders, establishing permanent Gold Star Families Memorial Monuments in communities throughout the country and provides scholarships to eligible Gold Star Children. Its' purpose is to honor Gold Star Families, relatives, and Gold Star Children who have sacrificed a loved one in the service of their country.
"The Hershel "Woody" Williams Medal of Honor Foundation will honor Gold Star Families, Relatives and Children by building Gold Star Families Memorial Monuments throughout the United States, by offering scholarships to Gold Star Children, by sponsoring outreach programs and events and by educating communities about Gold Star Families and the sacrifice they have endured."
The goals of the Foundation include:
Assisting in the promotion, creation, and implementation of Gold Star Families Memorial Monuments in every State throughout the country and in many communities.
Awarding scholarships to eligible Gold Star Children per the Hershel “Woody” Williams Medal of Honor Education Foundation scholarship guidelines.
Developing and expanding the Foundation Outreach program with a custom plan designed and deployed to reach out to all the stakeholders to increase organizational public awareness that will help sustain and grow the Foundation's reputation, reach and impact.
Educating and raising awareness in the American public about Gold Star Families and their sacrifices that they have made for the freedoms we enjoy every day as Americans, through outreach, education, and example.
We embrace the indomitable courage demonstrated by the Gold Star family members, relatives and Gold Star Children for their enduring sacrifice.
We support sacrifice and service above self as principles that all Americans should strive for as citizens of a free and prosperous nation.
We promote love of country and are committed to support and defend the freedoms we enjoy as Americans.
We believe that America’s destiny lies in its youth and are committed to helping them become worthy citizens of our country in the belief that ordinary Americans have the potential to challenge fate and change the course of history.
We believe that the mark of a true hero is to have the moral courage to do what needs to be done because it is the right thing to do.
We believe that it is our belief that commitment such as that of our servicemen and servicewomen
to serve their country can be demonstrated in all ways of life.
